Hitting it Big

Today was an interesting day. A group of people from work decided it would be a great idea to go to the casino in Illinois. Being underemployed in a slowed, stalled, pitiful economy - I initially said I was not going.



Well, lo and behold, my daughter paid for the bus trip so we could both go. So off we went to Metropolis, the home of Superman.



The casino is on a "boat" in the Ohio River attached to Harrah's Hotel. I say boat, but it doesn't go anywhere.



They herded us in, gave us our Reward Cards and THREE coupons to a free buffet dinner. We're already ahead of the game! They carded my daughter because she still looks 15. I begged the guy to card me. He said, "Ma'am, we card people who look under the age of 32." I said, "Hey...50 is the new 30...card me!" He was steadfast in his decision.



Down the escalator we went into a room with lights, and bells, and promise! They had every imaginable slot machine. They also had craps, blackjack and roulette tables. I opted out of those because they're too complicated for my brain. So, there I sat....pulling the lever, pushing the buttons.



In the back of my brain I thought...gee, it'd be swell if I won something! But in the part of my brain where common sense and intellect form, I knew the odds were unlikely. But hey, after an exhaustive search, I DID find my favorite slot machine! Super Jackpot Party! It's a shame I found it so late in the day because I'd already *coughing* lost the money I'd allocated. And, needless to say, it was a bust.



But all in all, it was a good day. We enjoyed the buffet: chicken breast, sliced sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, fried ocra, and a scoop of ice cream for dessert. And, I got out of the house, and blew the cobwebs off myself.



Tonight, when I go to sleep...I'll dream about hitting it big.
